There has been some buzz about this movie and frankly, I'm interested, even if the trailer is mostly a teaser and looks like it was made with Windows Movie Maker. It is the latest from director David Fincher, who previously directed The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and mostly famously, Fight Club.
The Social Network is not about people using Facebook. So don't worry, you won't be bombarded by interviews of people and their opinions on Farmville or the many layout changes that have occurred over the years. (I don't think there has ever been a layout change that myself or anyone has been completely satisfied with. /Agree?)
This film is about the inception of Facebook, and everything that happened behind the scenes that went on to create a multimedia giant, spurring lawsuits and a lot of backstabbing. I've name dropped Zuckerburg plenty of times in the past, and most people have been like "..Who?"
So hopefully this film will shed some light on what happened to create the social networking juggernaut that many of us check daily.
I'm also happy to see more work for Jesse Eisenberg. You probably know him from Zombieland and Adventureland. The trifecta can now be complete, if we can just get the studios to rename this one Facebookland!
The fact that this is a movie hurts me a little.
ReplyDeleteFacebook, while inherently awesome and very powerful (remember how the Iranian protesters organized themselves when Ahmadenijad stole the election again? Facebook), has created a whole new level of voyeurism and "Look at me! Notice Me! I'm important!" ~ism.
In all actuality, the movie itself looked like it would be fairly decent - but the part at the beginning of the trailer that just showed all these people vomiting everything about themselves to the world made me want to vomit a little myself.
